Participating in an Email Group
There are some basic things you need to understand when you join an RWV.groups.io email group.
- To prevent your group emails from going to your SPAM/JUNK folder, add the email address for each group (<emailgroup>@RWV.groups.io) to your Contacts before you subscribe.
- All RWV.groups.io email groups are open to Riderwood residents only; subscriptions are moderated by the Computer Club volunteers to confirm the residency of any new subscribers. So there may be a delay when you try to subscribe to your first RWV.groups.io email group.
- To unsubscribe from any RWV.groups.io email group, just send an email to <emailgroup>+unsubscribe@RWV.groups.io. This will remove your email address from that specific email group.
- When you subscribe to your first groups.io group, you will get an email from groups.io with the subject “Confirm Your Groups.io Subscription.” Simply reply to the email to confirm that you want to join a groups.io group and setup a groups.io account.
Types of Email Groups

Some email groups are simple distribution lists, used only to send out announcements to subscribers. Individual subscribers cannot send emails to these RWV.groups.io distribution list groups nor can they reply to any emails.

Other email groups support group discussions about various topics of interest to the group, where all subscribers can start new topics by sending an email to the group email address. Subscribers can join existing discussions by replying to the group’s email address instead of just the email sender. For these discussion groups, there are some basic rules of etiquette needed, to focus the emails as intended by the email group sponsors.
- Do not send “test” or “help”messages to the group email address. You can send an email directly to the sponsoring residents, using the group’s +owner email address: <emailgroup>+owner@RWV.groups.io.
- Keep your new topics focused on the intent of the email group. If you want to discuss other topics, consider sending non-group emails or creating a separate email group for your discussions.
- When replying to an email, use the Group email address ONLY when you have something to say that contributes constructively to the Topic; otherwise, reply just to the sender.
- Keep you messages short, and where appropriate, include links to more detailed information.
- Do not mark group emails as Spam or Junk, since that will affect future emails, as well as the current one, and may cause RWV.groups.io to ban your email address for future emails.
Your Groups.io Account
Every subscriber to any groups.io email group has a groups.io account associated with their email address. While you can send and receive group email messages without logging into your groups.io account, there are some useful features available online.
