Riderwood Village, MD, Mallard Lake, Photo of Hooded Merganser by Alan Hedin
Our walks start at the playground area near Garden View at 8 am on Tuesdays. Do bring binoculars, if you have them. The campus walks last about an hour. We consider the weather and cancel walks due to unfavorable conditions, so consult the leaders if you want to be sure the walks will happen.
At times during the year we have carpool trips to nearby places. These start at 8 am and we return to Riderwood by 10 am. We may also have longer trips. During the Winter months (Dec., Jan., and Feb.) and Summer months (Jun., Jul., and Aug) we go out birding only on the first and third Tuesdays.
Details about walks and carpool trips are coordinated by Becky Hedin. Contact Becky, at birders@riderwoodlife.com, to be added to the list of folks who want details about bird walks.
Bird Highlights from Campus Walks
We usually see 10 – 20 species on each campus walk. You may find the entire list at ebird.org. You may then do a search on ‘Riderwood’ and click on the date to see the entire list for the day.
