Who We Are:
The League of Women Voters (LWV) is a nonpartisan organization of women and men. Our mission is to encourage the informed and active participation of citizens on important public issues; to influence public policy through education and advocacy; and to encourage millions of citizens to exercise their right to vote.
LWV is a membership organization with members joining in the county (Montgomery or Prince Georges) in which they reside. LWV at Riderwood brings selected events such as discussion groups, webinars, talks, etc. to the Riderwood campus for the convenience of members and others. We also make the non-partisan Voters’ Guide available before every election.
The Riderwood League of Women Voters group meets monthly September to May. For more information contact Mary Lanigan at LWV@riderwoodlife.com.
Upcoming Activities:
Next Meeting: Monday, October 19
1:00pm-2:00pm Encore Theater, Lakeside Commons
Ballot Questions – What Do They Mean?
Representatives from the LWV of Montgomery and Prince George’s counties will explain the ballot questions that are on the November ballot.
All Maryland voters have three statewide ballot questions. Prince George’s County voters have an additional ten ballot questions. There are no Montgomery County specific questions. Come to learn what they mean in plain language so you can make your own decision about whether to vote for or against the measure.
Ralph Watkins from the Montgomery County LWV will explain the three statewide questions. Joyce Duckett, President of the LWV of Prince George’s County, and Tammie Norman, LWV of Prince George’s County board member, will explain the Prince George’s County questions.
Because we expect more than 20 attendees, we have moved the presentation to Encore Theater. We will return to our regular Discussion Group meetings in November.
