COUNTER TOP COMPOSTING COMMITTEE is a sub–committee of the Democratic Environmental Committee of the Riderwood Democratic Committee. This Composing group is made up of volunteer residents who are eagerly proposing that Riderwood soon begin assisting in the weekly voluntary collection of food scraps from apartments. It is contributing to environmental degradation thru methane now being emitted from the land fill.
It is costing us and Riderwood $65 a load to take food waste, which is very heavy, to the Landfill versus $45 a load to the outstanding Prince George’s County Compost Facility!
If food waste were a country, it would be the 3rd worst cause of Greenhouse emissions after the US and China.
The proposed Riderwood Compost Recycling Program would have residents collect food scraps and place them in containers within each neighborhood. The Program Guidelines would describe the acceptable and non-acceptable items for collection. A Frequently Asked Questions document would answer your questions about the process.
